Short bio

Meet Reginald Lee Bachus

Rev. Reginald Lee Bachus is a pastor, author, strategist, and founder of RESET, a faith-grounded movement helping individuals, families, churches, and communities move from drift to purpose and from awareness to intentional action.

His work brings together more than two decades of ministry, community leadership, advocacy, and experience across engineering, theology, law, and organizational development.

A graduate of Prairie View A&M University, Yale Divinity School, and Hofstra Law School, Bachus is the author of Run Your Race: Discovering Purpose and Power in God’s Plan and serves as Senior Pastor of Mount Ollie Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York.

Through RESET, he is developing practical frameworks, conversations, resources, and initiatives that equip people to prepare for what is ahead, make better decisions, and move forward by faith.

The Journey

Different disciplines. One purpose.

What do engineering, theology, law, community organizing, and pastoral leadership have in common?

For Reginald Lee Bachus, each offered a different perspective on the same challenge: understanding why people and institutions drift away from their purpose, and what it takes to restore alignment.

Engineering

Understanding systems

B.S., Electrical Engineering

Prairie View A&M University, 2005

Engineering developed a disciplined approach to examining problems, understanding how systems operate, identifying failures, and designing practical solutions.

Theology

Understanding purpose

Master of Divinity

Yale Divinity School, 2009

Theological education and pastoral ministry deepened his engagement with faith, spiritual formation, human dignity, service, and the relationship between belief and responsibility.

Law

Understanding institutions

Juris Doctor

Hofstra Law School, 2021

Legal education strengthened his understanding of governance, rights, accountability, institutional structures, and the systems that shape individual and community outcomes.

Different disciplines. Different perspectives. One recurring question:

What happens when people, priorities, decisions, and systems fall out of alignment?

The Origin Story of RESET

How the framework came to be

  1. 01

    Chapter 01

    Formation

A life shaped by systems, service, and responsibility.

Bachus’ formation brought together three disciplines that would later shape RESET.

    Read the chapter

Engineering taught him to map, diagnose, and improve complex systems.

Pastoral ministry kept his work connected to the realities of families, grief, hope, conflict, faith, and human dignity.

Law and civic engagement sharpened his understanding of structure, accountability, governance, and institutional repair.

    Chapter 02

    The Search

Learning through study, travel, listening, and encounter.

The development of RESET was not limited to formal education.

    Read the chapter

Through research, reading, travel, conversations, interviews, and encounters with people across different communities and institutions, Bachus examined recurring questions about leadership, purpose, stewardship, governance, and social change.

His search drew upon history, philosophy, faith, public life, and the work of builders and thinkers.

Like Napoleon Hill’s exploration of principles through the lives and experiences of others, this process sought to identify patterns that could be translated into practical guidance.

    Chapter 03

    The Mirror

    When observation became personal responsibility.

Across different environments, Bachus repeatedly encountered a gap between what people and institutions said they valued and how they actually operated.

    Read the chapter

Individuals, organizations, and communities could possess sincere intentions yet remain scattered, reactive, or misaligned.

This raised a more difficult question:

“What are we building, and what is it revealing about us?”

His study and reflection, including engagement with the work of Dr. G, reinforced the importance of examining one’s own decisions and responsibilities before attempting to change others. The mirror comes before the megaphone.

The work was no longer simply about studying problems. It was about confronting them honestly and identifying what responsible action required.

Key insightMeaningful change begins with the willingness to recognize drift and confront misalignment.

    Chapter 04

    The Crystallization

    From insight to architecture.

Over time, the observations, questions, and lessons began to form a coherent framework.

    Read the chapter

Five principles emerged as a practical decision-making lens: Respect. Educate. Serve. Efficiency. Transparency.

The architecture expanded through research, philosophical reflection, and the development of broader frameworks for personal, institutional, and societal repair.

These ideas informed the 12 Universal Pillars, the Great American RESET concept, and the development of YourRace.us as an operating structure for turning insight into action.

Today, RESET also incorporates a four-step personal process: Grounded → Aligned → Aware → Intentional. Together, these components provide a practical way to recognize drift, clarify priorities, evaluate decisions, and move forward with intention.

Key insightA framework becomes meaningful when it can be understood, practiced, evaluated, and improved.

His family heritage shaped an early understanding that leadership carries obligations beyond personal success.

Ministry and Community Leadership

Bachus began serving as Senior Pastor of Mount Ollie Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York, in 2011. After serving through 2015, he returned to lead the congregation in 2021.

His ministry emphasizes the relationship between faith and practical responsibility, including stewardship, preparation, governance, service, and community development. His leadership has also extended into civic engagement, advocacy, and organizational initiatives.

Education and Professional Development

Bachus earned degrees in electrical engineering, divinity, and law from Prairie View A&M University, Yale Divinity School, and Hofstra Law School. These disciplines shaped his understanding of systems, purpose, governance, and institutional accountability.

He passed the New York State Bar Examination in 2024.

Author and Movement Founder

In Run Your Race: Discovering Purpose and Power in God’s Plan, Bachus explores purpose, spiritual growth, endurance, and the responsibility to pursue one’s own calling.

RESET extends that conversation into a repeatable framework for decision-making, personal alignment, leadership, and community transformation.

Preparing for What Comes Next

Through CHURCH FORWARD: Real Conversations, the RESET Resilience Hub, and related educational initiatives, Bachus is developing resources to help families, churches, and communities prepare before a crisis arrives.

His work addresses practical concerns including emergency preparedness, financial stewardship, legal readiness, leadership, technology, and community resilience. His mission is to help people become better prepared, more accountable, and more intentional in how they live, lead, and serve.

The goal is not simply to start over.

It is to understand where you are, recognize what matters, and take responsibility for your next move.

Run Your Race. Reset Forward.
